Pathway to Pro

Build Florida’s First. Define
What Comes Next.

Florida is ready for NCAA Division I hockey, and FGCU is uniquely positioned to lead it. With an established winning culture,
proven fan demand, statewide relevance, and a credible path to national visibility, FGCU can become the university
that changes what hockey looks like in Florida.

Pathway to Pro

A First-of-Its-Kind Opportunity

This is bigger than the addition of a sport.

It is a chance to establish Florida’s first men’s and women’s NCAA Division I hockey program, create a new kind of statewide identity, and position FGCU at the center of one of the most compelling growth stories in college athletics.

There will only ever be one first.

That is what makes this opportunity so rare.

Why FGCU Is the Solution

FGCU is uniquely positioned to become Florida’s first NCAA Division I hockey program because the foundation is already here.

The program has built real credibility over time, including an all-time winning percentage above .800 across more than two decades of competition. That kind of sustained success matters. It signals that FGCU is not trying to invent hockey relevance. It is building from an established culture of winning.

Institutionally, FGCU also has a unique advantage. Without football competing for the same identity lane, hockey has room to become one of the university’s most distinctive and visible athletic brands.

Geographically, FGCU sits in one of the strongest emerging hockey regions in the country. Southwest Florida has become a thriving hockey hotbed with elite youth, junior, and community engagement, and FGCU is already the most recognized collegiate hockey program in the state.

FGCU also benefits from powerful access and connectivity. With RSW Airport providing direct access to many major markets, the program is well positioned for recruiting, travel, visibility, and relationship-building across the broader NCAA hockey landscape.

FGCU is not on the edge of the hockey conversation. It is at the center of Florida’s opportunity to build something bigger.

Florida Is a Modern Hockey Powerhouse

Florida is no longer an emerging hockey market. It is already a proven hockey power.

Since 2000, Florida’s professional hockey teams have reached 15 championship series and won 9 total championships, including 5 Stanley Cups and 4 Kelly Cups. The state leads the country in Stanley Cups during that period, and its teams have made 8 NHL Finals appearances, one of the strongest championship records of any state in the country.

At the ECHL level, the Florida Everblades became the only team in league history to win three straight championships from 2022 through 2024, adding to an already strong tradition of success.

This is what makes the opportunity so compelling.

Florida has the championships. Florida has the fan base. Florida has the youth participation. Florida has the momentum.

What it still does not have is an in-state NCAA Division I anchor.

FGCU has the chance to become that missing piece.

A National Brand Opportunity

Hockey offers FGCU something few universities ever get: the opportunity to own a category.

In football and basketball, the landscape is crowded. In hockey, being first in Florida would create immediate distinction, clear narrative power, and a path to national relevance that is both meaningful and believable.

This is not just about adding another team. It is about creating an identity the university, the region, and the state can rally around.

Florida’s Team in College Hockey

An NCAA Division I hockey program at FGCU would resonate far beyond the university itself.

Florida’s hockey momentum is real. Youth participation is growing. NHL success has helped deepen visibility. Families across the state are more engaged in the game than ever before.

What Florida does not yet have is an in-state NCAA Division I destination.

FGCU has the chance to become that missing piece.

That is why this vision is bigger than one school. It has the potential to become Florida’s team in college hockey.

Creating the Next Level of Opportunity

Right now, many elite players leave the state to pursue NCAA hockey opportunities elsewhere.

That is the gap.

FGCU can help fill it by creating an in-state destination for high-level men’s and women’s hockey, strengthening the development pathway for Florida athletes, and giving more young players a reason to believe they can build their future here.

This is not only about competition. It is about aspiration, access, and infrastructure.

Timing Matters

Opportunities like this are timing-dependent.

Florida hockey is growing. Market credibility is already in place. Facilities and infrastructure advantages exist. The story is strong. The conditions are favorable.

If FGCU acts at the right time, it can own one of the most compelling stories in college athletics.

If it waits, it risks becoming part of someone else’s story instead of defining its own.

A Legacy That Cannot Be Recreated

This is not a typical philanthropic opportunity.

It is a chance to help create something that does not yet exist and to be permanently connected to the moment it becomes real.

A transformational founding gift at this level would not simply support a program. It would help bring the program into existence.

That kind of legacy does not repeat itself.

Be Part of Building Florida’s First

FGCU has the foundation. The market is ready. The opportunity is real.
